Virginia A. “Ginny” (Torrey) Marino, 78, a longtime resident of Framingham died Friday, March 18, 2022 surrounded by her family after a lengthy illness.
Ginny was born in Framingham the daughter of the late Salvatore “Sub” & Mary (Hanna) Torrey. She was educated in Framingham Public Schools and soon after high school, met the love of her life Robert A. Marino at a carnival. It was the beginning of a wild ride.
Ginny and Bob settled in Framingham and started their family. Ginny was always a champion for the underdog, and used her advocacy to better the Town of Framingham. She was a Town Meeting Member for many years and participated on numerous boards and committees. She was passionate about making Framingham a better place for all to live equally, and found great joy in helping others in any way she could. She often said one of her best days was sitting down to lunch with Dr. Bose to resolve ongoing issues with the town, and later that day dining with a homeless man downtown and getting to know he too was kind, educated and just as interesting.
Eventually Ginny and Bob retired to her family home in Maynard and slowly adjusted to small town living. Ginny had a rich zest for life, a spunky attitude, and a quick sense of humor. She had a passion for cooking and the gift of making a gourmet meal with whatever was in the house. Gardening and a love of animals also made her smile.
In addition to her husband Bob, Ginny is survived by her two daughters, Daphne Smith & her husband Mark, and Stacey Meninno & her husband Charlie, both of Framingham, and her grandchildren, Michael and Katherine Smith, and Chaz Meninno. Ginny was also blessed at a young age with a wonderful lifelong friend/sister, Susan W. Slenker & her husband Bill of Centre Hall, PA. Early in Ginny’s marriage Jean “Spider” Heartl came into the world and immediately blended into the family, and to this day is considered a third daughter.
Family and friends will honor and remember Ginny’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham, on Tuesday March 22nd from 4-8PM. A time of reflection will begin at 7:30PM. Interment will be private.
