Richard L. Generazio, Sr.

Richard Louis Generazio, Sr., 88, passed away peacefully early Sunday, February 5, 2023 after a period of declining health.  Born in Newton, Richard was the son of Italian immigrants, the late Frank W. Sr. & Emily (Salvatore) Generazio,  and the beloved husband of the late Nancy (Cancellieri) Generazio.

Richard was raised and educated in Newton Public Schools, Admiral Billard Academy, and attended Bryant University. His father founded New England Sand and Gravel Construction Co. in Saxonville, and Richard carried on the business with his brothers for several decades. He was also part owner of Generazio Realty Trust.

Richard was a quiet and humble man whose adventurous spirit brought him on journeys around the world. His calm demeanor made people want to spend more time with him. He was passionate about thoroughbred horse racing, and enjoyed “quiet” car rides to the track. He was a lover of Boston sports, particularly the Celts and the Sox.

Richard adored and is survived by his children, Richard Jr. & his wife Elizabeth, and Miriam and her partner Phillip, his grandson, Richard III & his wife Katie, his great grandsons, Richard IV and Patrick, his brother, Thomas, his sisters, Rita Galvin and Susan Generazio Hanna, his first wife Miriam (McCarthy), a special niece, Debra Byrne & her husband Richard, several nieces and nephews, and his loyal canine companion, Annie.

Family and friends will honor and remember Richard’s life privately.
