Paul D. Keith, 96, a longtime resident of Framingham died on Thursday, January 20, 2022 surrounded by his family. Born in Medford he was the son of the late William H. & Kathleen (Hurley) Keith, and the beloved husband of the late Barbara M. (Taylor) Keith.
Paul was raised and educated in Medford and like many of the “Greatest Generation”, got permission from his mother at the age of 17 to enlist in the Navy during WWII. He served in the Mediterranean Theatre and then the Pacific having taken part in the Battle of Okinawa. After the war, he come home and began his career as a Stereotyper, and a member of the Boston Stereotyper’s Union Local #2.
In 1950 he married Barbara, and five years later bought their home in Framingham where he would live out the rest of his life. When the need for his trade came to an end at the Herald Traveler and the Boston Herald, Paul took a job as a Toll Collector for the MA Turnpike Authority as a member of the teamsters. A job that he retired from at the age of 67, enjoying almost 30 years of retirement.
Paul always wanted to be a dairy farmer, but moving to the country in Framingham in 1955 didn’t count. He enjoyed Tuesday night cards with the boys, and the outdoors particularly in Maine. Paul loved the Boston Braves and the Boston Red Sox, and of course despised the Yankees. Paul also loved the semi-pro football team, The Marlboro Shamrocks. The New England Patriots always put a smile on his face. Paul especially loved watching all the old Westerns like Gunsmoke, The Virginian, and Bonanza.
Paul’s family were his pride and joy, his children, Kevin P. of Framingham, Brian E. & his wife Patricia of Framingham, Janet Keith & her husband Daniel Verrico of Marlborough, Martin C. & his wife Rowena of Shrewsbury, Barbara M. Keith of Clinton, Evan Keith of NC, Christopher Lord and his wife Makeda of Framingham, his grandchildren, Justin, Christopher Keith, Daniel and Mark Verrico, Anastasia Plourde , Devin, Shannon, Erin Keith, Brendan and Kilian Pierce, Aidan, Liam, and Teagan Keith, 9 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides the love of his life Barbara, Paul was predeceased by his son in law Marshall Pierce, and his siblings, William, James, Anne Wescott, and Helen.
