Michael J. Flood

Michael J. Flood died peacefully on February 6, 2023 in Framingham, MA at the age of 77. He lived with cancer for several years but this last battle was too much.

He is survived by his sister Eileen M. Flood from Easton, MA, his niece Kathleen (Flood) Ellison and her family, his nephew Thomas J. Flood and his family and many grandnieces and grandnephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Jane (Bellan) Flood. His two brothers Thomas J. (Tony) Flood and James K. Flood.

Michael was born in Norwood, MA on March 19, 1945, and was raised in Canton, MA by his parents James T. Flood and Margaret Flood (Devlin). Michael worked in the leather district in Boston for many years and lived in Southie for much of his early adult life. He made many of his lifelong friends there and he cherished those memories and loved to tell some very colorful stories of that time in his life.

Michael met his wife Janie when they both worked at Brandeis University and they were constantly together after that with trips to the Cape for anniversaries and birthdays, tons of trips to local lakes for summer fun and taking many walks around their Framingham home. Michael learned to cook and was always happy to plan and cook meals for them both. Once Michael retired, he was a constant walker all over Framingham and the surrounding towns. His goal was to walk at least 10 miles a day and that was come rain or shine, hot or freezing cold! Michael was still out walking 7+ miles a day just weeks before his passing - many times, with a dear friend and their golden retrievers.

Michael was an amazing Brother, Uncle, Friend, and Husband. Always a positive and uplifting message was shared when anyone met with him. He will be missed by many.

The family would like to thank the hospice care givers from the past several months for their dedication and care of Michael. It was noticed and deeply appreciated by Michael and his family.

No funeral ceremony will be held per Michaels’s request. A private gathering will be set at a future date.
