We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home & Cremation Services
James E. Hanscom, 86, a longtime resident of Framingham, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 4, 2022.
Jim joined the National Guard during high school and missed his graduation ceremony when the guard was deployed to Worcester to clean up after the tornado of 1952. He was always in the construction field, starting out as a laborer for the Town of Framingham Water Dept. and eventually working his way up to becoming the Director of Public Works. Never afraid of hard work, he spent countless hours fighting the blizzard of ’78.
Jim loved sports. He played football in high school, pitched in the town slo-pitch league, and enjoyed having season tickets to the Boston Bruins during the Bobby Orr era. He was passionate about his lawn and vegetable garden and had a competition every year with Primo to see who would get the first ripe tomato.
Jim was a proud member of the Framingham Elks and Eagles, as well as the Framingham Heart Study. He never passed up a good time and loved travelling with his friends. He loved Ogunquit, ME, and the last 6 years in Wells enjoying his “waterfront” property.
Above all else, Jim was a family man who loved his wife, children and grandchildren dearly. He spent countless hours at the kids practices and sporting events no matter how far. He will be missed terribly by his wife, Margaret A. (Tucker) Hanscom, his children, Kim Marie Strasburg of CA, James Michael & his wife Jeannine of Mendon, Lynne of FL, his grandchildren, Ryan of CA, and Sarah of Boston, his siblings, Peter Amati, Jr. of Milford, and Marilyn Lincoln of Ashland, and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Jim’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham on Wednesday, August 10th from 4-7PM. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday morning in St. Stephen Church, 221 Concord St. Framingham at 10 o’clock. Interment will follow in Edgell Grove Cemetery.
