Garrett Michael Fagan, 97, a longtime resident of Natick, died comfortably at home with family on Thursday March 2, 2023. Born in East Boston, he was the son of the late Mary (Sinyard) Fagan and Garret J. Fagan, and the beloved husband of the late Aferdita “Rita” (Tassey) Fagan, whom he was deeply devoted to for 63 years.
Gary was raised in St. Mary’s, Newfoundland. He was a Canadian Merchant Seaman and a Logger. After having worked for Commonwealth Gas for 25 years, Garry retired and became a custodian at the Natick High School. He loved to play the harmonica. He was a brilliant poker player, skilled painter, and an all around handyman. He was a good, kind man with an amazing work ethic who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. At the age of 95, he was still mowing lawns for neighbors. A shy man, Gary showed his love with actions, not always words.
Gary is survived by his devoted children, Michael & his Partner, Donna Krim, Kathleen Fagan Augustini & her husband Stephen, Stephen and his wife Christie Kuo, as well as his cherished grandchildren, Matt and Tim Fagan, Lily and Nina Augustini, and Luke Fagan. Besides his wife Rita, Gary was predeceased by his son, Mark in 2007, and his siblings, whom he was both a father figure and bread winner for many years; Jack, Peter, Jim, and Audrey Hird. He deeply loved traveling home to Newfoundland and to visit relatives in Nova Scotia with his daughter, Kathy.
Family and friends will honor and remember Gary’s life with private graveside services.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Gary’s name to Natick Food Pantry.
