Dorothy "Dot" Evans, 93, of Framingham, MA died Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at her home, surrounded by her children, in Framingham after a valiant battle with cancer. Born in Kenmore, NY, she was the eldest of 3 daughters of the late Archibald Stuart Hunter and Dorothy Slayton Hunter. She graduated from Ohio University where she met her husband of 63 years, David J Evans Jr who passed in 2012.
Dot moved to Framingham in 1955 and taught preschool at Anita’s Kiddie Lodge and Little Folk Farm. After retiring from teaching she then worked at Dr. Jablonski’s pediatric practice in Framingham for over a decade.
Dot was a devoted Christian and a long time member of the Celebration International Church (CIC) in Wayland where she volunteered and supported Christ’s work and spread her faith at every opportunity. She spent countless hours sorting medications & packing month supplies for the church’s missionaries. For many years she was a leader of the seniors bible study and until the pandemic maintained her post as an usher. She was also the first ever parishioner to be honored with a personal parking spot at the church.
She volunteered for many years at MetroWest (Framingham Union) hospital even after her illness, holding stressed infants for hours and providing much needed comfort to cancer patients, giving hand massages and knitting a variety of warming sleeves and hats to ease the journey through chemo treatment. She was also an avid quilter who made close to 100 special occasion and baby quilts for her lucky family and friends.
She is survived by her children: Connie Evans and her husband Mike Shunney of Rockland, ME, Jim Evans and his wife Terry of Bellingham, Kathy Oleksyk and her husband Joe of Canton, OH and Deb Evans and her partner Bill Mariano. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Megan Webb, Laura Webb, Amy West, Dave Evans, Erin Evans, Jon Oleksyk, Kristine Oleksyk, Rebecca Killoran and Jacquelyn Farley, twelve great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews throughout the country. Dot was deeply loved and sorely missed.
Services will be held at the Celebration International Church, 6 Loker St, Wayland, MA 01778 on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 10:00 am. She will be laid to rest during a private ceremony at Edgell Cemetery.
