Ann Jeanne (Poirier) Walsh of Framingham, formerly of Newton and Belmont, died Saturday, November 6, 2021. Born in Cambridge the daughter of the late Charles & Winifred (Henebry) Poirier, she was the beloved wife of the late John F. Walsh.
Ann Jeanne was raised in Somerville and was a graduate of St. Clements High School. After becoming a registered nurse, she earned her Bachelor’s degree from Boston College and her Master’s from Northeastern University. She had a passion for both nursing and teaching. The majority of her 40-year career was dedicated to teaching nursing at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Many times, over the years her former students would reach out to thank her for guidance in their own careers.
Ann Jeanne and John raised their four children in Newton Centre, MA where they actively participated in the community and Sacred Heart Parish. Ann loved to spend time with family, especially her grandchildren. She and John enjoyed traveling together particularly with family and friends from Sacred Health Parish and the Oakley Country Club.
Ann Jeanne is survived by two of her daughters, Jeanne of Framingham, and Maura & her husband Carlos Avila of Framingham, her grandchildren Mariana and Cristina Avila, and Justine Powers & her husband Christopher of Billerica, and her great-grandchildren Emily and Allison Powers. She is also survived by her brothers, Jack Poirier of Scituate, and Ronald Croke & his wife Dorothy of Holland, MA, and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband John, Ann was predeceased by her daughter Elizabeth, her son, Richard, her granddaughter Lauren DuBois, and her brother Reverend Charles Poirier.
Family and friends will honor and remember Ann’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham on Thursday, November 11th from 4 – 7 PM. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church, 1317 Centre St., Newton on Friday morning at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow in Newton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Ann’s name to Saint Francis House in Boston, or Dana Farber Cancer where Ann and John volunteered regularly.
