Carlos A. Tavares

September 25, 1941 ~ January 1, 2019 (age 77)

Carlos A. Tavares, 77, a longtime resident of Framingham, died Tuesday, January 1, 2019, after a 3 year battle with cancer.  Born in Lousa, Portugal, Carlos was the son of the late Joaquim & Lucilia (Almeida) Tavares, and the beloved husband of Maria L. (Fonseca) Tavares for over 50 years.

Carlos immigrated to the US in 1968 and settled in Framingham. He worked in construction, but his entrepreneurial spirit led him to open his own company with two friends. Eventually, he sold the construction business and owned real estate and a liquor store in Hopedale.

Carlos was incredibly involved in the Portuguese Community. He held various leadership positions in the Portuguese Club throughout his life, coached a men’s recreational soccer team, and began an extra-curricular Portuguese language school. He frequently brought the community together, organizing dinner-dances, church fundraisers, festivals, and was integral in bringing the Portuguese Channel to the local cable network.

Family was everything to Carlos, besides his wife Maria he is survived by his daughters,  Michelle Tavares-Foster & husband Robert Foster of Austin, TX, and Dina Tavares Marchioni & her husband Jason Marchioni of Middletown, NJ, his grandchildren, Max, Alex, Siena and Vivian, his brother, Antonio Tavares, dear brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Carlos was predeceased by his siblings, Adozinda Queijo and Abilio Tavares.

Family and friends will honor and remember Carlos’ life by gathering for visiting hours at the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham, on Sunday January 6th from 1 – 5 P.M. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bridget’s Church, 830 Worcester Rd., (Rt 9 E) on Monday morning at 9 A.M.  Interment will follow at St. Tarcisius Cemetery.
