Anthony Flory Wilde “Tony”, of Framingham, MA, died on November 10 while in hospice care at St. Patrick’s Manor in Framingham.  His best friend and wife of over 45 years, Linda Sweeney Wilde, was with him when he passed.

The son of Richard Wilde and Anne Flory Wilde, Tony was born in New York City and grew up in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.  He graduated from Hopkins Grammar School and from Yale University, both in New Haven. A chemistry major at Yale, he earned his PhD at Indiana University.

After coming to Massachusetts, Tony worked for several years at Monsanto Chemical Company in Everett and then as a scientist at the U.S. Army’s Quartermaster research facility in Natick.   His work was transferred to the Army’s facility at the Watertown Arsenal, from which he retired in 1995 after 32 years of service,

A kind, generous, and curious man, Tony possessed a subtle sense of humor and pursued many interests, including the sciences, classical music, history, museums, theater, and traveling.  He especially enjoyed swimming and sailing with the family at Lake Bunggee in Woodstock, CT.

Besides his wife, Tony is survived by his brother, Richard C. Wilde and his wife Carla, his nephews Richard F. Wilde and Philip G. Wilde, all of Simsbury, CT, and Richard M. Grady and his wife Megan of Medway; nieces Colleen Caruso and her husband Kevin of Charlestown, Erin Sweeney and Tara Sweeney and her husband Richard Bosch, all of New York City and Sarah Amato, her husband Christopher, and their children of Holliston; grand-nephews Colin Wilde of Simsbury and Luke Grady of Medway; grand-nieces Lauren Wilde of Simsbury and Mary Kate Grady of Medway; his sister-in-law Martha Grady and her husband Richard of Mendon and brother-in-law John Sweeney and his wife Claudia of Milford; and many cousins, friends, and supportive neighbors. Tony was predeceased by his parents and his niece Yolanda Thomas Wilde, all of Connecticut.

The memorial service will be held at Plymouth Church, 87 Edgell Road, Framingham on Sunday, November 19, at 1 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the music program at Plymouth Church in Framingham or to St. Patrick's Manor, where funds will be designated to support activities of the staff which competently and compassionately cared for Tony and also for his mother, who was at St. Patrick’s during the 1990’s.

Tony's memory may also be honored by fostering children's interest in the importance of science, the delights of rail travel, and the wonders of astronomy.
