Mr. Kankai Chen, 36, of Framingham, passed away on Saturday, October 7th in Massachusetts General Hospital with his family by his side, after fighting a hard 20-month battle against gastric cancer.
Kankai was a scientist, a ping-pong player, an amateur actor, and a man who always brought smiles and laughter to people around him. Born on June 18, 1981 in Shanghai, China, he was the only child of Ming Chen and Jianying (Zhu) Chen. Kankai earned a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Fudan University and a Master’s degree in Biochemistry from University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was worked as a scientist for Sanofi / Genzyme Corporation in the past 12 years, making his lifelong contribution to the development and production of medicines for curing rare diseases. He liked playing table tennis and acting with drama groups. He was a member of MIT Wuming Theater Club and appeared in a hit drama “And Then There Were None” in 2015.
Family and friends will honor and remember Kankai’s life by gathering for visiting hours in McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln Street, Framingham, on Wednesday, October 11th from 3:00 – 7:00 pm.
