Ebenezer García Cabán, of Framingham, died at home on Thursday, October 26, 2017. He was 76.

Born on October 30, 1940 in Isabela, Puerto Rico a son of Segundo Garcia and Ana Cabán. He was raised in Isabela and San Juan. He made his bachelor degree at the University of Puerto Rico and his doctorate in philosophy at the University of Salamanca in Spain. Ebenezer was a professor at various universities in Puerto Rico and also taught for a couple of years in New York. He was married to Carmen Milagros Alsina. They had a couple of children; Hispania Garcia Alsina and Ivan Garcia Alsina. Hispania died in June 2, 2002. On 2012 he moved from Puerto Rico to Framingham, to be closer to his son.

Ebenezer always enjoyed reading and writing. He used to talk for hours about history, society, economics, politics and theology with his son Ivan, and also recently with his grandson Miguel Angel. He was always very kind, very respectful, and enjoyed speaking with people. He never liked drinking, smoking, or any sort of vice. He was always willing to help people when they needed it. Ebenezer was a very special soul. He always loved his family, and was a great father. With his example he taught about high virtue, truth, honesty, respect, kindness, purity, patience, and selfless love.

Ebenezer leaves his son, Ivan, his brother Segundo Garcia, and grandsons (from deceased daughter Hispania Garcia) Miguel Angel Wickersham Garcia and Janice Davila Garcia.

Family and friends will honor and remember Ebenezer’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St., Framingham on Sunday, October 29th from 1 – 5 p.m. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday morning in St. Stephen Church, 221 Concord Street Framingham at 10 o’clock.
